Hallie Bateman drew my picture

This drawing by Hallie Bateman lies somewhere between a portrait and a caricature of me. I think it’s quite brilliant. (You can probably get your own by following her on Patreon.) I’m going to use it as my social media avatar.

You know Hallie Bateman’s work, even if you don’t know you know her work. Her cartoons have been published in the New Yorker, and since the New Yorker is a nexus for smart American culture, its ideas and images, Hallie’s art among them, filter outward into the mainstream and meme-stream of the contemporary zeitgeist. So while I haven’t yet contributed in a significant way to the great dialog, I’m basking in this indirect, one-degree-of-separation contact.
